You may have heard it said – organization equals happiness. There is even scientific research which has shown cluttered spaces in your home can lead to unnecessary stress in your life. Essentially, physical clutter can cause mental clutter.
Let’s uncover a few easy ways to help you regain control and make your home a more organized and less stressful space you can enjoy.
Starting in your home’s entry:
- Whether you have a closet, a trendy hall tree, or a simple row of hooks on the entry wall, make sure there is a place for everyone to hang their coat, jacket, or hoodie.
- You may want to add a series of smaller hooks for keys, umbrellas, hats, or dog leashes.
- Next, add bins for each family member to store shoes, papers, work, and any other items you need as you head out the door.
- While you don’t want your mail in the entryway, sorting it when you come in each day – tossing junk and filing bills – will keep you and your home better organized.
In the kitchen:
- Keep like-items together, nesting when possible, and storing your items in locations close to where you use them, for example, pots and pans near the stove/oven and glasses, plates, and flatware by the dishwasher.
- All your baking dishes should be together as should your spices, knives, and spoons.
- Use dividers in drawers, lazy Susans on shelves, and bins and baskets to keep items organized.
In the bathroom, take a similar approach, grouping like items together, and storing them on shelves, drawers, or underneath the sink. Finally, lighting dark closets, and organizing the contents on hangers, shelves, and bins will make getting ready fast and easy.
These helpful tips and tricks will get you on your way to a more organized, happier, less stressful environment at home as you regain control of your space.
